Tang Soo Do - Adults

Put Karate into your everyday living. that is how you will see true beauty.

GICHIN FUNAKOSHI

Offering a structured, progressive journey that fosters both physical skill development and personal growth. Starting at 10 gup, commonly known as the white belt, students embark on the "Path to Black Belt." This path emphasizes the importance of community support, as each student relies on guidance from more senior practitioners to advance. In the early stages, 10 gups focus on the foundational movements known as "hyungs" (similar to forms in other martial arts), specifically Keecho Ilbo and Keecho Hyung Eebo, which are designed to build energy through proper stances, movements, and strikes. At this level, students also learn the basics of Tang Soo Do's kicking techniques, which serve as the building blocks for over 100 variations. The key expectation for beginners is to develop respect for tradition and understand that the privilege of martial power is rooted in service, not destruction. As students progress from the beginner’s phase (9, 8, and 7 gups) to the advanced gup phase (Green, Brown, and Red belts), they refine their basic movements and learn more complex techniques, focusing on breathing, posture, and balance. They also integrate the Six Qualities of a Champion—Courage, Concentration, Endurance, Honesty, Humility, and Control of Power—along with the eight key concepts of Tang Soo Do for personal growth and discipline. Sparring plays a key role, with MAK’s "Fight Club" offering a supportive space to practice timing, endurance, humility, and control. The program aims to develop both martial skills and well-rounded individuals who contribute to the MAK community and beyond. Black Belt testing is based on both technical ability and personal growth, with the Black Belt marking the start of a lifelong journey of mastery, responsibility, and service to others.

With over 300 students, many of whom train alongside their parents, siblings, and children, MAK fosters a true sense of community. Training together helps build stronger relationships and instills essential life skills such as discipline, respect, and teamwork. We understand the importance of family, which is why we offer substantial membership discounts for additional family members.
